Do I need a cron job for osTicket?

osTicket uses cron to:
Fetch emails
Send alerts
Run background tasks
Maintain system automation
If cron is not running:
Emails won’t be fetched regularly
Automation rules may fail
When using email polling (IMAP/POP) → cron is mandatory.
When using email piping → cron is usually NOT required because emails are processed instantly.
Simple rule:
IMAP/POP → need cron
Email piping → no cron needed
Most beginners use IMAP, so cron becomes essential.
